A handbook of environmental toxicology : human disorders and ecotoxicology / J. P. Felix D'Mello (editor)
Oxfordshire, UK : CAB International, Wallingford, 2020
675 pages. : illustrations (some color) ; 26 cm.
Ký hiệu phân loại (DDC): 362.19698
This handbook focuses on human disorders and ecotoxicology, as affected by major toxins originally from biology sources and pollutants, and radiation generated spontaneously or as a result of anthropogenic activity. The book explores the cutting edge of research and also indicates the likely direction of future developments.

Advances in solid and hazardous waste management / Sudha Goel
Cham : Springer, 2017
497 pages. : illustrations (black and white) ; 24 cm.
Ký hiệu phân loại (DDC): 628.44
This book presents reviews, examples and case studies of innovative applications in solid and hazardous waste management. The economics of waste management have since become a significant research area in their own right, and two chapters address these issues. In addition, dedicated chapters cover specific categories of waste such as biomedical and institutional waste, plastics and e-waste. The book subsequently discusses newer analytical methods like SEM, EDX, XRD and optical microscopy, along with selected "older" methods for sampling and characterizing different types of waste. The various applications of mathematical tools like linear optimization, various software/models like WISCLeach, and DRASTIC, and tools like remote sensing and GIS are illustrated in many of the chapters. Lastly, since composting is one of the most popular treatment methods for managing the organic component of municipal solid waste, the book provides an overview of composting and the fundamentals of microbiology that are essential to understanding waste-related biological processes. The book was primarily written for students and practitioners in the field who are already familiar with the basics. All chapters were prepared by practicing experts and scholars in the field, and are intended to help readers better understand and apply these principles and practices in their own endeavours. Key topics covered in the book: • The circular economy and the economics of solid waste management • Various remote sensing and GIS applications for managing municipal solid waste, coal fires in mines, changes in land use and land cover in industrial areas, etc. • Treatment and management of different types of solid waste: institutional (including biomedical), residential, e-waste, plastic, and ash from thermal power plants • Sampling and characterization of municipal waste and compost • Fundamentals of microbiology • Overview of environmental regulations, especially those pertaining to solid and hazardous waste management.

Ecology, environment and pollution / Felix Sweeney, Riley Mitchell
United Kingdom : ED-Tech Press, 2019
286 pages. : ill ; 24 cm.
Ký hiệu phân loại (DDC): 577
Ecology is the scientific study of the distributions, abundance and relations of organisms and their interactions with the environment. Ecology includes the study of plant and animal populations, plant and animal communities and ecosystems. Ecosystems describe the web or network of relations among organisms at different scales of organization. Since ecology refers to any form of biodiversity, ecologists research everything from tiny bacteria's role in nutrient recycling to the effects of tropical rain forest on the Earth's atmosphere. The discipline of ecology emerged from the natural sciences in the late 19th century. Ecology is not synonymous with environment, environmentalism, or environmental science. Ecology is closely related to the disciplines of physiology, evolution, genetics and behavior.

Ecotoxicology essentials : environmental contaminants and their biological effects on Animals and pla / D W Sparling
London, UK : Academic Press is an imprint of Elsevier, 2016
ix, 490 pages : illustrations (chiefly color), maps (some color) ; 23 cm
Ký hiệu phân loại (DDC): 363.7
Ecotoxicology Essentials: Environmental Contaminants and Their Biological Effects on Animals and Plants provides a fundamental understanding of this area for students and professionals in ecotoxicology, ecology, conservation, chemistry, public health, wildlife management, fisheries, and many other disciplines. Although new chemicals and potential problems are developed every year, a basic education is essential to address these new challenges, and this work gives such training. Written with the regulatory framework in mind, the material guides readers on modelling, how to conduct assessments, and human and wildlife risk, focusing on effects on animals rather than transport of chemicals. Simple discussions of chemistry are complemented by coverage on the behavior of the animal, dynamics of the ecosystem, real-life situations like drought, and predators in the system -- i.e., the natural system versus the lab setting. The book's first section contains chapters on the principles of contaminant toxicology including a brief history of the science of ecotoxicology, basic principles of the science, testing methods, and ways of determining if animals have been exposed to either acute or chronic concentrations of contaminants. The second section deals with the primary classes of contaminants including their chemical characteristics, sources, uses, and effects on organisms. The third section focuses on more complex issues such as the regulation of pollution, population and community effects, risk assessment and modelling. Uses examples from both aquatic and terrestrial environments and species Includes a Terms to Know section and a list of study questions in each chapter, fostering a greater understanding of the issues Focuses on the effects of contaminants on wildlife while providing enough chemistry to allow a detailed understanding of the various contaminant groups Emphasizes natural examples and 'real' species, rather than laboratory studies on only a handful of organisms Features case histories, detailing actual events that include aspects of how the contamination occurred and its effects on wildlife Provides material from a wide variety of international sources.

Introduction to environmental toxicology : molecular substructures to ecological landscapes / Wayne G Landis; Ruth M Sofield; Ming-Ho Yu
Boca Raton, FL : CRC Press, 2017
xx, 470 pages. : illustrations (some color), color maps ; 27 cm.
Ký hiệu phân loại (DDC): 615.
The fifth edition includes new sections on the use of adverse outcome pathways, how climate change changes how we think about toxicology, and a new chapter on contaminants of emerging concern. Additional information is provided on the derivation of exposure-response curves to describe toxicity and they are compared to the use of hypothesis testing. The text is unified around the theme of describing the entire cause-effect pathway from the importance of chemical structure in determining exposure and interaction with receptors to the use of complex systems and hierarchical patch dynamic theory to describe effects to landscapes.
