| The plant Vernonia amygdalina Del. (Asteraceae) (“lá đắng” - bitter leaf plant) was studied for antioxidant activity and inhibitive power on α-glucosidase enzyme. The dichloromethane extracts showed the best in bioactivities in question. The extraction was investigated for high efficiency and potential inhibitivity on α-glucosidase enzyme. Finally, the extration was optimized as: the plant powders were extracted three times, once with ethanol 40% (v/v), solid-to-liquid ratio of 1/5 (w/v) at 50oC for 40 min. The obtained extracts showed antioxidant activity (IC50 = 51.9 μg/mL) and good inhibitivity on α-glucosidase enzyme (IC50 = 480 μg/mL), much higher than the ethanol and aqueous extracts.
