An introduction to soil mechanics / Arnold Verruijt Cham, Switzerland : Springer, 2018 407 pages : illustrations Ký hiệu phân loại (DDC): 624.15136 This textbook offers a superb introduction to theoretical and practical soil mechanics. Special attention is given to the risks of failure in civil engineering, and themes covered include stresses in soils, groundwater flow, consolidation, testing of soils, and stability of slopes. Readers will learn the major principles and methods of soil mechanics, and the most important methods of determining soil parameters both in the laboratory and in situ. The basic principles of applied mechanics, that are frequently used, are offered in the appendices. The author?s considerable experience of teaching soil mechanics is evident in the many features of the book: it is packed with supportive color illustrations, helpful examples and references. Exercises with answers enable students to self-test their understanding and encourage them to explore further through additional online material. Numerous simple computer programs are provided online as Electronic Supplementary Material. & n bsp; As a soil mechanics textbook, this volume is ideally suited to supporting undergraduate civil engineering students. An introduction to traffic flow theory / Lily Elefteriadou New York : Springer, 2014 xx, 251 pages : illustrations (some color) ; 24 cm. Ký hiệu phân loại (DDC): 388.015196 This text provides a comprehensive and concise treatment of the topic of traffic flow theory and includes several topics relevant to todays highway transportation system. It provides the fundamental principles of traffic flow theory as well as applications of those principles for evaluating specific types of facilities (freeways, intersections, etc.). Newer concepts of Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and their potential impact on traffic flow are discussed. State-of-the-art in traffic flow research and microscopic traffic analysis and traffic simulation have significantly advanced and are also discussed in this text. Real world examples and useful problem sets complement each chapter. This textbook is meant for use in advanced undergraduate/graduate level courses in traffic flow theory with prerequisites including two semesters of calculus, statistics, and an introductory course in transportation. The text would also be of interest to transportation professionals as a refresher in traffic flow theory, or as a reference. Students and engineers of diverse backgrounds will find this text accessible and applicable to todays traffic issues. Số bản sách:

Finite element methods for engineers / Roger T. Fenner London : Imperial College Press, 2013 xxvi, 245 pages. : illustrations ; 24 cm. Ký hiệu phân loại (DDC): 620 This book is intended as a textbook providing a deliberately simple introduction to finite element methods in a way that should be readily understandable to engineers, both students and practising professionals. Only the very simplest elements are considered, mainly two dimensional three-noded “constant strain triangles”, with simple linear variation of the relevant variables. Chapters of the book deal with structural problems (beams), classification of a broad range of engineering into harmonic and biharmonic types, finite element analysis of harmonic problems, and finite element analysis of biharmonic problems (plane stress and plane strain). Full FORTRAN programs are listed and explained in detail, and a range of practical problems solved in the text. Despite being somewhat unfashionable for general programming purposes, the FORTRAN language remains very widely used in engineering. The programs listed, which were originally developed for use on mainframe computers, have been thoroughly updated for use on desktops and laptops. Unlike the first edition, the new edition has problems (with solutions) at the end of each chapter. Số bản sách:

Granular geomaterials dissipative mechanics : theory and applications in civil engineering / Etienne Frossard London, UK, Hoboken, NJ : Wiley, 2018 xxiv, 277 pages. : illustrations ; 24 cm. Ký hiệu phân loại (DDC): 620.19 This book develops a new vision in geomechanics which will be of interest to researchers and engineers. It begins with the key theoretical features of dissipative structures induced by elementary contact friction within geomaterials in slow motion, their multi-scale expression in key tensor relations and associated features including strain localization and shear banding Số bản sách:
