Andrographolid, as a natural biological active, was isolated from Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees (Acanthaceae) and purified to the purtity of 98.03%. Its structure was elucidated by UV-Vis, IR, MS, 1HNMR, 13CNMR. In addition, an HPLC method was validated for analysis of andrographolid. The calibration curves were established by six replicate experiments (with purified andrographolid) demontrated a good linear regression over a range of 120,06 – 283.13mg/ml (R2 = 0.9996); the precision RSD was less than 2%; the accuracy ranged from 99.01 – 101.24%. This proved the obtained andrographolid was fairly corresponding to the certified reference material of USP in terms of content, and therefore, may be established as reference standard for quality control and research of the plant.

Regarding anthranilic acid as a frequent constituent of many bioactive compounds possessing wide ranges of biological activities, and the nucleus of anthranilic acid is the biochemical precursor of amino acids themselves, their derivatives several alkaloids as well, four N-substituted derivatives of anthranilic acid were synthesized in good yields. The structures of the synthesized derivatives were confirmed by IR, 1H-NMR and MS. In bioactivity, the synthesized derivatives were evaluated for in vitro antifungal and antimicrobial properties on 5 fungal and 4 microbial strains. These derivatives showed no effect on bacteria but average inhibition on T.mentagrophytes and M. gypseum (compound 1 and 4).

A simple reversed phase UHPLC-UV-Vis method was developed for simultaneous determination of prednisolone, methylprednisolone, betamethasone, and dexamethasone acetate adulterated in herbal medicines used for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The method was estalished as: Column - Thermo Acclamide Polar C16 (4.6 x 250 mm; 5µm); Mobile phase - acetonitrile and water in gradient mode; Flow rate - 1 ml/min; Detector – UV (240 nm). Validated in observane to the AOAC guidelines, the proposed method showed to meet well the all the requirements: suitability for UHPLC system, selectivity, linearity range (R2 > 0.995), accuracy (recoveries in the range of 90% - 107%), and precision (RSD < 5.3%), and high sensitivity (LOD: 0.32 ppm, LOQ: 1.3 ppm). For practical tets, these four glucocorticoids were analyized in 30 available herbal products; of these five were found illegally aldulterated with corticoids.
