Characteristics and consumption trends of antifungal agents in Bach Mai Hospital in the period of 2012 - 2016 were analyzed. Consumption data were obtained from the computerized databases and calculated in defined daily doses (DDD)/1000 patient-days. Average antifungal drug use was 13.00 and higher in the Departments of Infectious Diseases - 158.07, against 121.17 and 78.82 for the Intensive Care Medicine and Hematology, respectively. Prescription of Itraconazole and fluconazole was the most frequent. Intensive care unit and Hematology unit showed an increase in the consumption of antifungal agents. An upward trend was also observed in the consumption of amphotericin B deoxycholate, amphotericin B lipid complex, itraconazole, fluconazole, while caspofulgin and voriconazol started their use in the recent years. That an increase in the consumption of antifungal drugs, and a trend towards the substitution of older agents by other new ones were observed really suggested the need of implementing an antifungal stewardship program in Bach Mai Hospital.
