The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast the various expressions of the verb “give” in English with its equivalent meanings in Vietnamese, focusing on structural, syntactic, and semantic differences. This study discusses the usages of “give” in contexts, furthermore its inflected forms in English and Vietnamese equivalents (e.g., cho, đưa, tặng). Through this analysis, the research seeks to uncover the linguistic and cultural nuances embedded in each language’s use of the verb.
To achieve this, the study provides detailed statistics to illustrate the similarities and differences in the usage of “give” and its Vietnamese equivalents. We look at examples from each language to illustrate how meaning, grammar, and context differ.
