Flacourtia sp. samples of the plant in the Vietnamese vernacular name of “Hong quan” collected from various provinces of Vietnam were morphologically and microscopically characterized. By detailed morphological and microspical characterization of the leafs, flowers and seeds, they were identified as the species Flacourtia rukam (Zoll. et Mor.) and Flacourtia indica (Burm.f.) Merr. (Flacourtiaceae). This botanical identification was also confirmed by DNA sequencing. in comparison to the accepted genetic sequences of Flacourtia rukam and Flacourtia indica, the genomic sequence of “Hong quan” plant showed a similarity up to 99 %. The detailed morphological descriptions and genomic sequence of Flacourtia rukam and Flacourtia indica would serve as useful basic database for distinguishment of these two species in Vietnam from each other.
