This study aims to estimate the effect of personal and organizational characteristics on the research productivity of lecturers at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, thereby recommending appropriate solutions in improving research productivity at this university. Analyzing 141 lecturer survey questionnaires of 6 different disciplines, including technology and social fields, we found that there are differences in research productivity between technical and social fields; obstacles to carrying out scientific research interrupt the research productivity, and the academic environment has a positive relation to the scientific research performance of lecturers. More specifically, there exists a nonlinear relationship between the age of lecturers and research productivity.
