The BCS theory of superconductivity developed in 1957 by Bardeen, Cooper and Schrieffer has been remarkably successful in explaining the properties of superconductors. In addition, concepts from BCS have been incorporated into diverse fields of physics, from nuclear physics and dense quark matter to the current standard model. Practical applications include SQUIDs, magnetic resonance imaging, superconducting electronics and the transmission of electricity. This invaluable book is a compilation of both a historical account and a discussion of the current state of theory and experiment. With contributions from many prominent scientists, it aims to introduce students and researchers to the origins, the impact and the current state of the BCS theory

Lecture notes on field theory in condensed matter physics / Christopher Mudry
New Jersey : World Scientific, 2014

The aim of this book is to introduce a graduate student to selected concepts in condensed matter physics for which the language of field theory is ideally suited. The examples considered in this book are those of superfluidity for weakly interacting bosons, collinear magnetism, and superconductivity. Quantum phase transitions are also treated in the context of quantum dissipative junctions and interacting fermions constrained to one-dimensional position space. The style of presentation is sufficiently detailed and comprehensive that it only presumes familiarity with undergraduate physics.

More and different : notes from a thoughtful curmudgeon / P. W. Anderson
Singapore : World Scientific, 2011
ix, 412 pages. : illustrations ; 26 cm.
Ký hiệu phân loại (DDC): 530.1
A collection of essays by Philip W. Anderson, Nobel Laureate in Physics, reflecting on the practice, philosophy, and politics of science. Topics range from condensed matter physics and quantum theory to the sociology of the scientific community and the challenges of research funding. Anderson offers candid views on the development of modern physics, interdisciplinary approaches, and the relationship between theory and experiment. Alongside his technical discussions, he critiques the organizational structure of science and emphasizes the role of creativity.
