Statistical physics : an introductory course / D. J. Amit, Yosef Verbin
Đầu mục:4
Tài liệu số:0This invaluable textbook is an introduction to statistical physics that has been written primarily for self-study. It provides a comprehensive approach to the main ideas of statistical physics at the level of an introductory course, starting from the kinetic theory of gases and proceeding all the way to Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics. Each idea is brought out with ample motivation and clear, step-by-step, deductive exposition. The key points and methods are presented and discussed on the basis of concrete representative systems, such as the paramagnet, Einstein's solid, the diatomic gas, black body radiation, electric conductivity in metals and superfluidity. The book is written in a stimulating style and is accompanied by a large number of exercises appropriately placed within the text and by self-assessment problems at the end of each chapter. Detailed solutions of all the exercises are provided.
Reviews of accelerator science and technology. Alexander Wu Chao, Weiren Chou (editor)Volume 4, accelerator applications in industry and the environment /
Đầu mục:8
Tài liệu số:0Since their debut in the late 1920s, particle accelerators have evolved into a backbone for the development of science and technology in modern society. Of about 30,000 accelerators at work in the world today, a majority is for applications in industry (about 20,000 systems worldwide). There are two major categories of industrial applications: materials processing and treatment, and materials analysis. Materials processing and treatment includes ion implantation (semi-conductor materials, metals, ceramics, etc.) and electron beam irradiation (sterilization of medical devices, food pasteurization, treatment of carcasses and tires, cross-linking of polymers, cutting and welding, curing of composites, etc.). Materials analysis covers ion beam analysis (IBA), non-destructive detection using photons and neutrons, as well as accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). All the products that are processed, treated and inspected using beams from particle accelerators are estimated to have a collective value of US$500 billion per annum worldwide. Accelerators are also applied for environment protection, such as purifying drinking water, treating waste water, disinfecting sewage sludge and removing pollutants from flue gases.Industrial accelerators continue to evolve, in terms of new applications, qualities and capabilities, and reduction of their costs. Breakthroughs are encountered whenever a new product is made, or an existing product becomes more cost effective. Their impact on our society continues to grow with the potential to address key issues in economics or the society of today. This volume contains fourteen articles, all authored by renowned scientists in their respective fields.
Bioluminescence : chemical principles and methods / Osamu Shimomura
Đầu mục:10
Tài liệu số:0This book is an authoritative monograph on the recent progresses in the chemistry of bioluminescence. It provides a comprehensive overview of the past and the latest developments in understanding the biochemical mechanisms of some 35 different types of luminous organisms, together with information helpful to students and researchers in an Appendix. It is the first and only book that provides chemical information on all currently known bioluminescence systems. Dr Shimomura is the leading practitioner in the field for the past half century, and is best known for his discovery of the jellyfish photoprotein aequorin and the green fluorescent protein. This book is the bible of bioluminescence, and is 'a must read, ' not only for the students who study bioluminescence but also for those who work in various aspects relating to bioluminescence. This book will be an important source of chemical knowledge on bioluminescence for a long period of time in future. Fully revised since its publication in 2006, it now incorporates the most recent advances in the subject area. A new section on 'Green Fluorescent Protein' has been added at the end of Chapter 4. It contains an extensive reference section
Liquid crystals, laptops and life / Michael R. Fisch
Đầu mục:2
Tài liệu số:0Liquid Crystals, Laptops and Life connects laptops to life itself through liquid crystals, the phases of matter essential to both, in the process it provides a synthetic introduction about the chemistry and physics needed to understand the basic science and technology embedded in laptops and in life.
Managing Knowledge Assets, Creativity and Innovation / Dorothy A. Leonard
Đầu mục:6
Tài liệu số:0It includes articles from journals in various fields (e.g., the award-winning articles on Core Competencies and Core Hardiness) and book chapters covering the innovation process, from from the beginning in everyone's mind until its implementation, the underlying theme throughout the book is managing the flow of knowledge that drives innovation - especially tacit knowledge.
Invitation to physical chemistry / Gopala Krishna Vemulapalli
Đầu mục:4
Tài liệu số:0This is a unique book with a different aim from other books on the subject. The idea is to provide readers with the "big picture" first, yet at a level that helps further the study of physical chemistry. The text covers all the important topics in physical chemistry--thermodynamics, statistical thermodynamics, quantum chemistry, and chemical kinetics--staying rigorously close to the basic theory, using appropriate mathematics but avoiding long derivations.
Introduction to modern navigation systems / Esmat Bekir.
Đầu mục:10
Tài liệu số:0The emerging technology of very inexpensive inertial sensors is available for navigation as never before. The book lays the analytical foundation for understanding and implementing the navigation equations. It starts by demystifying the central theme of the frame rotation using such algorithms as the quaternions, the rotation vector and the Euler angles. After developing navigation equations, the book introduces the computational issues and discusses the physical aspects that are tied to implementing these equations. The book then explains alignment techniques." "Introduction to Modern Navigation Systems offers an efficient algorithm for polar navigation. It also shows how to enhance the performance of the inertial system when aided by the Global Positioning System. It is an appropriate textbook for senior undergraduate and graduate students in aeronautical and electrical engineering. It could also be used as a reference book for practitioners in the field.
