National Scientific Conference: Green Education – Education for Sustainable Development

NTTU – Recently, Nguyen Tat Thanh University organized a national scientific conference on the quality of higher education with the theme “Promoting green education in universities – Strategy towards sustainable development”. The event attracted more than 350 delegates including experts, scientists, education managers and representatives of agencies and businesses interested in green education and sustainable development.

The workshop received the participation and reports of experts such as Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Chuong - Director, Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training; People's Teacher, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Duc, Former Vice President of Hanoi National University, Chairman of the Physics Professor Council; Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Quang - Chairman of Thai Nguyen University Council.

On the side of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, the workshop was attended by Dr. Nguyen Mai Lan - Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the University Council; Dr. Nguyen Van Luong - Vice Chairman of the University Council; Dr. Tran Ai Cam - Principal, along with Vice Principals and leaders of faculties and departments.

More than 350 delegates attended the workshop, discussing green education trends and sustainable development in higher education.

In addition, the conference received presentations on green education trends and innovation not only in quality assurance and quality assessment activities but also in strategic orientation for university development and teaching activities from authors inside and outside Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

The workshop is a forum for exchanging and sharing experiences and initiatives to improve the quality of higher education, especially in the context of green education becoming an inevitable trend in the world, in which in Vietnam, the Planning of the educational institution network for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, issued on February 27, 2025, also clearly states that planning is associated with sustainable development goals.

Dr. Tran Ai Cam with her presentation "Priority strategies of world universities for sustainable development goals - Contact for Nguyen Tat Thanh University" clarified the role of universities in implementing sustainable development goals, analyzed the priority strategies for sustainable development of world universities, ASEAN region, higher education institutions in Vietnam, and suggested directions for Nguyen Tat Thanh University in implementing these goals in the future.

Continuing the program, Prof. Chuong with his presentation on “Perspectives on quality management in the new era”, shared about the current status of education quality assurance and accreditation, the quality assurance plan until 2030 and beyond focusing on developing an internal quality assurance system and quality improvement, key factors for effective governance of higher education institutions and the direction of state management to ensure compliance with the rapid development of technology and changing needs in higher education in the digital age.

Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Chuong presented a paper on educational quality management in the digital age - the focus of sustainable development strategy.

Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Quang emphasized the role of nature-integrated education in building a solid learning environment.

Next, Prof. Pham Hong Quang with his presentation on “Developing a green university education environment in the context of university autonomy” proposed ways to build a sustainable learning environment in the context of university autonomy, thereby promoting the sustainable development of educational institutions, focusing on the philosophy of life and education of people in harmony with nature.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Duc – Former Vice President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Chairman of the Physics Professorship Council – emphasized the importance of integrating environmental protection education into the training program, applying green technology and innovating teaching methods towards sustainable development.

In addition, Professor Duc emphasized: “Integrating environmental protection content into the curriculum, applying green technology and innovating training methods is an inevitable trend, not only a responsibility but also an important strategy to help students raise awareness and take action for sustainable development.”

Delegates discussed enthusiastically, sharing initiatives to build green education policies and sustainable business ecosystems.

From the discussions at the Workshop, a number of solutions were suggested for higher education to move towards green education and sustainable development such as: Building and implementing green education policies in all areas, from teaching, research to extracurricular activities; Focusing on improving facilities, applying energy-saving measures, using resources effectively and limiting environmental pollution on campus; Encouraging and developing research on the environment and sustainable development; building policies to support sustainable startups in education; Training green startup thinking for sustainable development; integrating courses on startups and innovation; green innovation based on advanced technology and access to global knowledge; Developing a green startup ecosystem in schools through a consulting system, international cooperation projects and businesses; Responding to and participating in international exchange programs, competitions and projects; Green startup initiatives implemented in an international context, developing global sustainable development thinking.
